A Day in the Life at 983 Group: How We Work, Wherever We Are
At 983 Group, our hybrid model means no two workdays look exactly the same—and that’s just how we like it. With team members based from Boston to Chicago (and spots in between), we’ve built a culture that supports flexibility, autonomy, and connection—whether you’re working from a home office or the 983 Boston HQ!
We thought the best way to show what life at 983 is really like was to hear directly from the people living it. So we asked a few of our team members to share their routines, favorite work hacks, and what makes working here feel both productive and personal. From how we beat the afternoon slump to staying connected across time zones, here’s a peek inside a day in the life at 983 Group.
How do you build relationships with coworkers you’ve never met in person?
Aimee Eichelberger, 983 Group Principal & CEO: It can be tricky to develop a camaraderie with a virtual colleague - but in my experience, it doesn't have to be! Having worked remotely for 13 years, it's now more familiar territory for me than being in an office. For me, it starts with picking up the phone. In today's day and age, it can be easy to stick to slack, email, text, etc - but I find that hearing each other's voice can really help establish a relationship. That's always the time that I get to know someone on a deeper, less transactional level. We can chat about challenges, opportunities and discuss non-work related items like "how was your weekend," or "did you see that show last night." Beyond that, I encourage us all to turn on our cameras, and make the most of virtual meet-ups.
What does “craft excellence” mean at 983, and how do we make it a habit—not just a goal?
Cassie Smith, Principal and Chief Operating Officer: At 983, craft excellence means delivering exceptional work and building lasting client relationships through curiosity, care, and consistency. It’s not just about strong execution—it’s about being a true partner. We make it a habit by encouraging our team to go beyond transactional communication: to ask thoughtful questions, anticipate client needs, and look for ways to add value beyond the scope. Regular, proactive communication—not just email—helps us build trust and uncover deeper insights. When we focus on being strategic partners, not just vendors, we consistently exceed expectations. That’s what turns great work into long-term impact—and makes craft excellence part of our everyday mindset.
How does 983’s hybrid work model support your personal life, goals, or work style?
Kate Nichols, Account Manager: 983's hybrid model gives me the flexibility to crush my PR goals while also spending more time with my family. I never have to miss a daycare pickup at the end of the day, and on the days I work from home, I get to spend an extra hour with my son each morning. Being in the office allows me to collaborate with my colleagues in person, and then on days that I'm home, I value the quiet that I need to accomplish my to-do list without interruption or distraction. While at home, I like that I can pick up the phone to pitch a reporter without worrying about disturbing a colleague. I also like that I can quickly make myself breakfast or lunch between tasks. That being said, the office has pretty good snacks (and company)!
Where are you based and what does your typical workday look like?
Grace Rigas, Account Executive: I’m based in Chicago - born and raised. I usually start the day with coffee and a quick look at the news or any reporter updates while mapping out my daily priorities. Then I dive into pitching and building media lists. I also spend time doing research to support client needs and help shape pitching and story angles. Most days include a few team or client calls, and I’m usually working on prep - like agendas beforehand and recaps afterward. I try to carve out some heads-down time, especially when I’m working on any writing-based projects. I like working with a little music on - or sometimes a reality show or true crime documentary in the background, depending on the mood!
What’s your favorite part of your workspace?
Grace Hogan, Assistant Account Executive: Working in the office three days a week, I’ve made it a point to bring some personality and good vibes to my space. My favorite detail? Definitely my warm-toned lamps. They help me feel focused and cozy—and keep the productivity going. I leave the overhead light on until about 1 p.m. each day, then switch to lamp mode as a little reward. If I go full cozy too early, I’m afraid I’ll get sleepy!
What is one thing you think people misunderstand about working remotely?
Kerriann Becker, Senior Account Executive: People often think remote work means less communication or collaboration, but I’ve found the opposite. Being remote makes us more intentional—scheduling team brainstorms, connecting on Slack, and hosting virtual happy hours and events. Weekly video calls help us stay close and connected. Without those organic office moments, there’s a stronger focus on inclusion and team support. I’ve never once felt disconnected from the 983 Group team.
What is your best productivity hack and tools you can’t live without?
Melissa, Brouillette, Account Manager: I live by Slack Lists. I’m always updating my to-do list to stay organized and keep things moving for each client. It helps me prioritize what’s due that day, track progress after team calls, and quickly adjust when new tasks come in. I tend to get pulled in different directions, so having a clear list I can reference throughout the day—and setting deadlines—keeps me focused and productive.
What surprised you the most during your first month at 983 Group?
Isabelle Hess, Assistant Account Executive: One of the biggest surprises during my first month at 983 Group was how unpredictable each day can be. I could start the morning with a clear agenda—tasks lined up, meetings scheduled—and within an hour, everything could shift. A media opportunity might come in unexpectedly, and suddenly, that becomes the top priority.
What I quickly learned is that in public relations no two days ever look the same—and that’s part of what makes this job so exciting. It’s a fast-paced environment that demands flexibility, problem-solving, and clear communication. There’s a constant energy and momentum that keeps you on your toes, and I’ve found that some of the most rewarding moments come from rising to those unexpected challenges.
What’s your favorite 983 moment or project so far?
Nigel Smith, Principal & President: When 983 Group officially came to life, we needed new team headshots for the website—cue the AI photo generator. While it did the job, the real magic came from the unexpected fails that had us all laughing. It even inspired a round of custom coffee mugs. For me, it was a great reminder that while building something new is hard work, it should also be fun. A little levity goes a long way in the middle of a big journey.
